Pledge, Prayer and Song

Ryan Childers led the pledge; Bob Mapes said the prayer and the dynamic duo of Lily Arambula and Veronica Henderson conducted the singing of God Bless America.

Visiting Rotarians and Rotarians with Guests

Dan Nuffer introduced Cherise Alford a member of the Imperial Breakfast club and who was our only visiting Rotarian. No guests were introduced.

Announcements

The Chamber mixer was the only announcement from the floor. President Emma reminded everyone that this was Literacy month and to read a good book and if they didn’t have a book to start with the Rotarian magazine.

The El Centro Rotary Club board announced that they would be presenting a Rotarian of The Month. The first honorary was Rod Pittman, who was selected for his service to the club.

Thanks to Past President Aaron a short video of the Rotarians At Work day was shown

Whining and Fining

President Emma started the fining with a delivery fee of $50 to Aaron Popejoy for his Past President’s badge.

Wes Blakely was fined $75 for his 40th wedding anniversary trip to New York City. Wes and his wife enjoyed the usual tourist sites, however, they didn’t take in any musicals. This enjoyable anniversary trip was compliments of their daughter.

A $50 fine was assessed Larry Bratton for his recent trip to the south where he enjoyed places such as Nashville and Atlanta. Larry brought a bribe to Pres Emma, framed pictures representing places he visited, good bribe!

A trip to the French Rivera cost Cynde Lopez $50, she only brought one picture and refused to show her tan. Cynde also brought a bribe to our Prez. a T-Shirt of the Grand Prix de Monacco.

For his picture and article in the Business Journal, Bob Hahn was fined $50. Bob is a banking veteran of forty years. Also pictured twice was Kevin Rachford, which costs him $25 each.

Program

Bobby Brock introduced Charla Teeters, from the Imperial County Film Commission (& United Desert Gateway).
ICFC has helped Imperial County be home to feature films, international photo shoots, widely televised corporate commercials, music videos and more. Toyota Motor Company has recently filmed two ads, one at the sand dunes, and one at the Salton Sea.
In the past few years a number of films have been shot in the Imperial Valley, Charla mentioned Jar Head and Transformer. Some segments of TV series have also been filmed here. Charla said, “the reason why advertisers like to film here is the contrast in scenery, the ruggedness of the desert, cactus, etc. and the convenience and availability of the area.” One area that producers particularly like is the Niland Mariana, however, the Superstitious Mountain and sand dunes have all been used in the past.
The ICFC has generated over $1M of economic impact (dollars brought in and spent in) Imperial Valley in the last twelve months. The Film Commission assists in venues, facilities and crews for local productions as well as doing outside promotion and marketing to prospective customers. ICFC is seeking leaders to volunteer as members of the board. Thank you for this very interesting program.
