Rotary Bulletin #50 for the Week of May 28, 2009

Pledge, Prayer, and Song

President Aaron led us in saying the pledge, Ed Snively prayed, and Julie Hamilton and Trish McNeece led the song.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests of Rotarians

There were no visiting Rotarians present. David Cason introduced his guest Pat Gulak a process server and Bobby Brock introduced his gust Ashley Bertussi.

Announcements

Rod Pittman gave a reminder to everyone about the highway cleanup to be held on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 7:00 a.m. Rod also passed the sign-up sheet around for any last minute signatures.

Wes Blakely passed the sign-up sheet around for the President’s annual dinner (aka Kick out) to be held at the NAF Mirage room on June 11, 2009. Remember to bring you drivers license, car registration and proof of insurance.

Jennifer Thomason thanked those members of the campout committee who were not present during lasts weeks meeting. They included Norm Self and Wes Blakely.

Paul McManus announced the meeting of the toastmaster club and encouraged those who want to improve their speaking and leadership skills to attend.

Whining and Fining

Ed Snively was fined $100 for his recent anniversary trip to Las Vegas and his 40 plus years of wedded bliss.

Norm Self was fined for his trip to Canyon Lands National Park, for showing a video and trying to bribe President Aaron with a “pet rock”, actually it was a rock painting. The bribe didn’t work and Norm was assessed a $100 fine. Norm “outed” Bob Mapes for also traveling to canyon lands which still didn’t help Norm and cost Bob a fine of $100.

Wes Blakely was also fined $100 for a 40-year reunion trip to Las Vegas to meet some of his army buddies.

Kevin Rachford bought not one, but two new cars, and from out of town. For his errant ways Kevin paid $500 towards his Paul Harris.

David Cason recently took a train trip to the Tecate Brewery. This little trip on the rails cost David $100.

Program

George McFadden, the program chair for the month of May, introduced John Caltigerone the Director of IVCEC who was accompanied by Janice Lau the El Centro Elementary School District Psychologist, and Patty McDonald a representative from the County. They thanked the El Centro Rotary club for their continued support of the gymnastic program for IVCEC students. They showed two videos of the students participating in the gymnastic classes and also presented two thank you posters from the students.

David Cason and “the table” won the $27 pot and the blue chip remains for another day
