Announcements Rod Pittman reminded everyone that the Highway Cleanup would take place on Saturday, May 30th. Meet at the In-N-Out parking lot at 7:00 a.m. He encouraged the Inter-Act clubs to participate. Past President Lee announced the Annual President’s Dinner (aka “kickout”) to be held at the Mirage Room of the NAF on June 11th. Rotarians dine free, however, you will need to pay for your spouse or guest (s). And of course, don’t forget your car registration, driver’s license, proof of insurance and sign-up to attend. Visiting Rotarians and Guests of Rotarians Cherisse Alford from the Imperial Breakfast Club joined us for lunch, Matt Contreras introduced his son Robby, and David Cason introduced his guest. Whining and Fining We only had one fine, and that went to Trish McNeece in the amount of $75 for her trip to Las Vegas and for attending “CHER.” Program We didn’t have a special guest speaker today; we had several guests today that gave short speeches. Today was a day of honoring our very own Rotarians who gave of their time as STAR presenters and to hear from some of the STAR students, their teachers and Principals. We also met the scholarship winners and heard what they would like to become, lastly we met some of the students we supported as recipients of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) Program. It was an enjoyable program that honored various ages and bridged the spectrum from fourth grade to seasoned Rotarians. Thanks to Rosa Caro who “manages” the STAR Program, Cathy Kennerson who handles the Rotary Scholarships and Emma Jones who helps with RYLA. Included amongst our guests were the seven students the El Centro Rotary club sponsored to attend the RYLA Conference. Four of the students were from Southwest and three from three from Central. Also present were the Rotary Scholarship winners from Central Union High School: Marissa Robledo-$1,000, Hyung Ju Kim-$750, and Brianna Castellanos-$750. The Recipients from Southwest High School are: Ashley Armendariz—$100, Kayla Finnell-$750, and Jacqueline Olivas-$750. Congratulations! Thanks to Cathy Kennerson for her help with the Scholarship Program. Thanks also to the counseling staffs of both schools that disseminated and collected the applications and also to the Rotarians that helped read the applications: Veronica Henderson, Bobby Brock, Emma Jones, and Bob Hahn. Drawing Veronica Henderson was the winner of the drawing. Back |
